"I imitated the look of a quilt on the top part of my layout. I punched out a bunch of circles and then folded them into squares. I laid them down side by side and then stitched them all down. Playing around with 7gypsies Venice gaffer tape. I painted the tape with Golden Iridescent Bronze, which has a lot of iridescent pigment by the way:) and Raw umber. The tape a a slight raise in it so when you rub the paint color off with a paper towel the letters pop out.

"I used the lines on the bottom based pattern paper as a guide for stitching some lines across. It doesn't show up well in the photo, but it adds some nice texture to the layout in real life. I also cut out the small "journaling" cards from the October Afternoon Pattern Paper and rounded the corners of them. I layered them across the middle of the layout and on the very last one, I added some buttons to imitate an old fashioned button card. Lastly, I added a sprinkling of butterflies across the layout to lead your eye across." ~~Melissa

"I find it very difficult to scrapbook with large circular items or circular photos. I challenged myself with this layout to do both of those things. I love the end result and think that I will have to use this technique more often in my scrapbooking. I could have easily used three circular photos and placed my journaling on the bottom or used two photos and one circle for journaling....lots of options! Think outside the box (or circle!) and use a technique that you wouldn't normally choose for your next scrapbook layout!"~~Melissa

"This layout was super easy to put together! First, I sprinkled my white card stock with a Mr. Huey mist and let it dry. I punched out a bunch of stars from some various paper; I placed my pictures where I wanted them on my layout, and then fit in the stars down the length of the card stock around my photos. My title went on a chipboard tag by Studio Calico and I typed my journaling on a piece of Kraft card stock and glued it down. The last finishing touch was to put the wood veneer asterisks on some of the stars." ~~Melissa

A gorgeous card from Melissa Mann!

"To create this card, I used the Studio Calico butterfly masks and misted the front of the card with Mr. Huey in Piglet. After letting that dry, I outlined each butterfly with an American Crafts precision pen. Then, I created the focal point of the card by layering paper and stitching it down. I wrapped a piece of black and white twine around the card and then stamped out my sentiment. I used dimensional dots on the back of the stamped sentiment. Lastly, I placed a yellow brad on each butterfly and placed some small silver embellishments on the sentiment." ~~Melissa

For the past three years I've done a Basic Grey Calendar. I love that it's ready to go and I usually just scrap the top. This month I added a little something to the bottom. The reason I'm showing you this is because I used some Art-C beads. I think the beads are a great texture to use when paper crafting. Add glue and sprinkle :)

Christmas is just around the corner and we are getting ready for the festivities, writing down ideas, wish lists, recipes and more. I personally have lots and lots of little papers and sticky notes sitting around during this busy time – half of them get lost in the chaos... I end up getting frustrated and of course, that is not the goal of the season!

The December Dailies or Christmas Journals that I commit myself to each year don't get filled (other then the first three or four days) and once Christmas Eve has passed I regret not having captured more memories...

This made me think. I brainstormed for a good resolution and then it hit me! I don't want a journal that makes me feel I need to do something every single day, I need something entirely different. I want to prepare a book before Christmas and then I want to enjoy and capture the season with my camera and maybe a few journal posts. That's it! No pressure to create a page every single day, but the fun and joy that this season brings to us.

So this class is not going to make your already busy life even busier, but it will help you to organize, enjoy and capture the most wonderful time of the year in a simple way.

My hope is for you to be able to let go of the idea of committing yourself to a December Daily to be able to capture your life during Christmas. I want you to step out of the box and explore a new system that will help you to relax and enjoy the season with your family and friends.

"Using my sewing machine is one of my go-to techniques that I use on nearly every layout. It just doesn't feel complete until it has some sort of stitching on there. On this layout, I did not stitch perfect lines across the punches shapes, but instead just sewed random zig-zag lines across all of the pattered paper. Not only does it add some texture to your layout, it is also a quick way to adhere everything down!" ~~ Melissa
